Opening announcements on food and fashion blogs don’t particularly influence where I dine/shop, but they have been steering my photographic practice as of late. If the mysterious Cal Bingham (worth a look here: http://calbingham.com/) hasn’t already festooned his divine eye on the space I’ll pitch it.
But really. Cal’s work is instantly recognizable, even if semi-unconsciously. A first-second whopper of appreciation, then a tingling feeling that oh boy yep it just might be has to be the Cal’ster at it again. I figure I’ll meet him eventually, pick his brain a bit, see how he ticks.
The point of this all being that this work at the volume I’m doing is new to me. Scratch tickets, bottles breaking, skateboarders, Havanan mansions… all one-offs. But now it’s Restaurant A, Restaurant B, Boutique C, sometimes a couple a week. Hoping that some general visual style will emerge.
The mines are rich in this fair city.
