A new lamp is had. An Ikean construct that now joins, yes, two other Ikea lamps in the room. To be fair, the two were acquired circumstantially and without cost. The new one though, it’s a means to the end of a furtherly (and perhaps brutally sparsely) chic apartment.
The Ikea experience today was largely a festival of want. The game, rather pleasant to play I must admit, is to feast one’s eyes on all manner of furnishings, fantasize about having them, and then rationally undercut that feeling through sheer force of will. No, that won’t make you happier, and you know it, and here’s all kinds of reasons why…
And the feeling fades out. That attachement the designer fought so hard for has vanished into a simple acknowledgement that yes, that chair exists, and will continue to exist, just not in your studio. The lamp was wanted last time but was unstocked. Purchasing on previous wants after nine months of consideration.
Dimmer switch and all.
