Wet Monday

Two days, two walks to the polo court. Tonight from afar the court was nearly unseeable, wet asphalt under feeble streetlights. No persons to be seen as the flurries stirred and whipped, the kinds of mini-flakes that you can feel on the surface of your eye just before it blinks.

But the cars rolled in and the cyclers coasted down the path. Polo was begun. Nine of us on this desolate night. Wind, but not the piercing, cruel kind we’re used to. 36 degree wind that disorients you because you can’t figure out why you’re not cold.

A whopping two games played. A mallet from tournaments past with a veteran head and a once-cloth handle worn down to the aluminum. It was good to me. Many a goal scored. Some were even impressive.

A 23-photo slideshow for the polo’ers, but you can see too. https://gustavhoiland.com/darkpolo/
