Beyond Flesh

A Patagonian “sale” noted and briefly perused at lunch. Lingering desires for more adequate footwear for troubled weather. Heck, a desire to have no excuse not to go out in the rain. And while I’m at it why not fill out the distinctly (self-consciously) thin wardrobe? Boot, flannel, shell, checker, rainpant and denim.

I want to walk to Providence. The Google says it’s forty miles. Having recently listened to new reportage on some late Kennedy’s insistence that every American be able to walk fifty, I think I’m up to it. Will the new soles inspire, encourage the journey? Will the heavy chunk of memory-solidifying metal and glass be slung from the shoulder?

I know not. I know only that I have bolstered my day-to-day outfitting options with great quality at less than the retail sticker whilst stoking my desires for experience with full-priced imported outdoors products. Ultimately it is a strange dance of capital and imagination and will power, brewing and stewing in what is always hoped to be a cup of satisfaction and gratification.

Ugh. Wunderful.
