Meals consumed, drinks downed, all manner of organic compounds burning in the human furnace and coursing through its veins, becoming themselves part of the living machine. All this activity done at the behest of the mind on top, whose consciousness takes up but a sliver of the total processing power.

Whatever the case, it all exists in time. While ideas and knowledge and all that might occupy a space of more permanence, they are all made useful and/or considered in time. And the persistent challenge for the consciousness is how to spend all that time effectively, optimally.
