That Time

Had to sneak in a family portrait on the accelerated scamper back to the car after a brief stepping around on a fine-sanded beach. No crashing waves, just ripples of nine-degree slush flirting with the increasing barrier of ice between land and sea.

Restaurants happened upon, recommended, both with exquisite beer from hearty garage-brewing Minnesotans. Cold so cold that it just has to be my homeland. Five years in Boston has made me forget what happens to human cheeks when uncovered in real winter.

Fireside laptopping beneath taxidermied geese, grand woodwork supported by nordic-ish stone columns. Christmas music wafting through, occasionally distracting me from reading, but not entirely unwelcome given the day. It’s also perhaps the first time I’ve actually heard more than ten seconds of it all season.
