It may be an infernous fifty degrees out there, but dear Boston will not let the dry sidewalks forget that this season is upon us in spirit. Reports that Rudolph himself was hit by a subway car turned out to be unsubstantiated, and train-track sleighs were not deployed to handle additional holiday traffic.
Whatever the case, I’ve been a huge fan of metropolitan density ever since I witnessed Manhattan incarnate. Of life stacked upon life, funneled en-masse through tunnels and catered to the walker. Lawns replaced by window flower-boxes. Not a single underutilized square foot.
This affinity was undoubtedly cemented by my months living and working in a quintessential American suburb. Life driven to and between. Commerce conducted at mile-long strings of big-box retailers, fed by six lanes of mini-vans and sports cars. Perfectly manicured lawns, undisturbed by sidewalk squares.
Stack’em up!
