Sport is essentially boundary driven. Operate your body within these lines and your opponent will do the same. I vaguely recall some lines in Infinite Jest where players at an elite tennis academy are doing everything on the court – playing, eating, sleeping, etc… because their universe is within those lines. As aspiring professionals, nothing outside those lines is important.
This is in great contrast to … life at large. There may be boundaries in terms of contracts, but those are more obligation than boundary. Have some hours? Depending on your mode of transport, everything within a certain radius is possible. Have the internet? Go anywhere, do anything virtually in about 10 seconds.
Extrapolate this openness to the decades of life one exists within and… well. There’s a lot out there. This weekend will be … unbounded.
