If you’re not on the court, your eyes probably are. Generally. There are exceptions, of course. Many of them. But it’s a nice break to see the action without playing a part in it.
The court seems to undulate between tiny and infinitely spacious. Between being this highly confined space, crowded with players and limited options, and this vast expanse of endless opportunity.
Speed plays a big part in that, as well as the general pace of the game. On a quick breakaway sprint towards their goal the court’s end is but a few pedal strokes away and you’ve got a second to shoot. But in a holding pattern of possession, of passes circling around their net, there couldn’t be more space.
Strange.
