Night at Eight

A morning of editing to interviews of Will Self, a spate of excellent polo matches, a walk with another, a walk with myself. This Will Self guy, recommended by the roommate, is an absolute pleasure to hear. What remains to be seen is whether or not he’s equally good on the written page. If so, I just may have a new author in my life.

He’s a huge advocate of walking. Walking in order to understand a city, one’s place in it, and … well, I’ll have to learn more about him in the coming days. I’ll be scrounging around in the depths of interviews to see if he has any direct comments on the experience of walking with a camera in hand.

I walk a fair amount (used to walk 40 minutes each way to class before moving further out), though I really ramp it up whilst in foreign lands. But it’s contingent upon aloneness generally, the really long walks. Or rather perhaps reliant on, a long solo afternoon whether by choice or circumstance is the first ingredient in what’s often a very satisfying endeavor.

Walked. Now to Sleep.
