Breaking Away

Taking an early post here as a reprieve from the last homework assignment I’ll ever have. Eighteen years of school and this is the end of it all – a sprawling but precise document aimed right at the heart of commercial bankers in pursuit of both long and short term financing to open a 100% average independent pizzeria. The glorious apex of my business education.

And, as with every semester’s end, my nerves are frayed and I fret about with all sorts of petty indulgences in order to avoid the work that must be worked on. I break for some late morning self portraiture. For another cup of coffee. To open a window. To scroll through some music. And for a late-afternoon blog post (ostensibly to free up time later tonight for the real work).

It’s absurd. And I’m comforted in a small way knowing that there’s a couple dozen million other kids out there right now struggling to simply get to work. But an entirely different kind of work than “real” work, which I’ve never seemed to have had any trouble getting to. The ultimate grade does not motivate, but having eight hours a day of structured work time sure does.

Yours truly as of late-morning, 2 April, 2012.

  1. You may think it’s your last ever homework. That may be so; but never say never. The fates are then tempted and they’ll mess with you big time!
