Awaiting the Bell

Cycling home in the cold, chopping salad contents, editing boxing footage, revising the resume, watching Bourdain scour Hong Kong, further revising resume, dreaming of Hong Kong, etc. My final Boston Monday of the year.

There were a couple of impressively brutal fighters at the ring Saturday night. Here stands (leans?) one of them. Bathed in the fluorescence that rains down from the rafters, this guy wasn’t in the ring to joke around.

All the faces are obscured. Headgear that surrounds the cheeks like soft and blunted tusks. Ropes that deny eyes and lips alike of coaches and the entourage.

Six minutes in the ring.

  1. Where are you finding these matches? I would love to go to one of these.

    • Boston Boxing in Allston – A photographer friend of mine has been shooting portraits at this gym for a while now and he invited me to join in and introduced me to the crew. This was the last fight night for a while, probably a couple months at least.
