Fade from Grey

Thought of a lighting setup to experiment yesterday sometime. I know not when. Probably en route to or from the wash closet at work. Some moments of monumental clarity tend to rain down from the ceiling tiles during those transversals of office-grade carpet and interactions with institutional door handles.

Big’ol bounce umbrella diffused again through a white cloth, both positioned just out of the frame. Pretty standard fare, really. But important to actually go through the motions and evaluate the results. One of a billion setups I could make with the studio gear I’ve got at hand.

The separation of background into black and white polygons was mostly accidental. But a fine backdrop indeed – it makes the switch from value extremes in a sharp line, whereas everywhere else the transition is gradual (a hallmark of a nice soft light source).

To Tuesday.
