Another grab from yesterday, very much in the straight-up-skateboarding vein. High energy/drama and a distinct removal from reality, but not commissioned to sell shoes.

I’m not quite sure how I feel about his facial expression. And it’s not just him – these uncontrolled/unaware/unconscious/unununun things happen to our face whilst in the throes of some kind of action. I might even go so far as to call it the skate orgasm.  That makes me chuckle, but I don’t think it’s entirely accurate. It does make me wonder if professional skaters practice to control their composure during their moves, or otherwise seek the consultations of a some strange facial awareness specialist.

While this photo works for me quite well, what with that low rail swooping so forcefully at you and the skater gliding atop it behind, upper body isolated against the looming clouds, I think I could do a lot better. The board has to get way closer. The camera lower. Perhaps a more diffuse flash.

Something to work on.
