My interest in skateboarding has been piqued by some recent viewings of quick pro-skater profiles over on VBS.TV from their Epicly Later’d series. From a photographic standpoint it’s about as good as it gets – interesting characters, a unique genre of fashion, great leaps of airborne movement/other trickery, and on and on and on. There’s a dandy skate park in Naperville that I paid a visit to today and I foresee many a future venture out there. Perhaps every day. I’d love to get fluent in shooting it, as today was spent mostly bumbling around trying to figure out how it all works.
This fellow asked me to get a shot of him going over this ramp. I obliged. I think this shot was from the first time he went over with me shooting. He did it another half dozen times while I experimented with different angles. A couple of them turned out alright, but this one takes the cake primarily because the frame is filled with just ramps and him (and some sweet faces). Most of the other shots have trees, parked cars, blown out sky etc… which really destroy the image.
This also got me experimenting with shooting the 8 frames per second the camera is capable of. It can rattle them off for about two seconds before it needs to take a breather. I’m still amazed by it. I’m not sure if it’ll help me make any better images, but it’s just part of the package to explore.
