Dresses and Handbags

Square framed photos are really working for me as of late. However, 4:3 res’d (pre-widescreen TV) is like torture. Wider 2:1 and further is great. But squares, man. Squares. I Hasselblad’d some medium format film earlier this year that was all square, and I guess after working with that I have some appreciation for the challenges of shooting it well. The above shot was cropped to square. I have no regrets. I endorse the crop.

So I guess I’ll start with color. Yes. It’s great (translation – I like it). That pink dress floating in the black vacuum of light that she sits upon. The white leather of the handbag. The ever present flesh. Yadda yadda yadda

I guess what really works for me is the lines. The repetition in the hardwood below that is the plinth beneath the chair. The acute angle between crossed legs and the untamed directions of folds of fabric. The curves of white that outline the contours of the chair. That one-off vertical in the top right corner.

That’s all folks. I’ve exhausted my analysis of this. It works for me.
