Standing in Style

The ESPI 5 imagery continues. I hope to have a solid set together soon, showing a splendid little story of the weekend, bathed in warmth, lens vignetting, and deep blacks. At least that’s the aesthetic I’m pursuing at the moment for this project. The image above is up for consideration for inclusion in said set.

I really like how the figure here interacts with the edge of the frame. The elbow comes ever so close. The right hand lies in wait between the head and the right boundary. But mostly it’s that elbow that works for me. The angle of the bend and the shapes it creates around itself.

I was shooting with a 50mm lens on a 5dmII which should theoretically give me the same perspective as shooting on a 35mm film camera w/ an equivalent lens (warning: photo-nerdery). No zoom, so I was prancing around, stepping forward and back while composing images. I shot a lot of people from behind this weekend, and I’m sure most everyone saw me dancing behind unknowing victims as I tried to get the right look. The lens also dropped to f1.4 which gives some beautiful depth of field-ness (super blurry background here).

In closing, the French polo-ists sure know how to dress, stand, and exist in utmost style.
