Crosswalk Ladders

Went for a walk the other day and ended up leaning against a traffic light on this corner for a half an hour or so, just people watching and occasionally shooting. This was one such shot.

I’m at it again with the limited color palette. So now I’m starting to wonder, is that entirely normal? Are most photos like this? Any photo that includes sky and plant life already has exceeded my definition, and colorful clothing or decor will blow it away as well. Here it’s just white, gray, and a light orange.

All color considerations aside, the perspective is clearly the focus here. At first glance she looks pretty normal, just standing up straight minding her own business amidst the earth turning on its side (OK I guess the gravitational field would have to shift or something). What I need to finish off this effect is a bunch of actors gripping the ground for sweet life, looking down left out of the frame with expressions of sheer terror. But once you look closer at her it’s clear that she’s really just standing normally in the normal worldspace, not all sideways and off balance.

Notice the single leg near the end of the crosswalk and the one hand above her right shoulder. I didn’t notice them until now, but I like’em for some reason. No, I’m not just too lazy to photoshop’em out. If I wanted to polish this into something flawless and fake I’d have done a much neater job blacking out the left Best Buy sign near the top right corner (the right sign was much easier). Didn’t notice that until I pointed it out, right?

Corners, man.
