Inclement Weather

Just a quick post before I run off to NYC for a digital printing workshop at Calumet where I hope to, well, learn to print! (and more importantly learn the economics behind it as well as industry lingo, equipment, etc…)

So we’ve got a sidewalk here. Not only is there snowfall, but there is snow falling, which seems to make this photo more of a “Moment” photo than something peaceful and timeless like … snow covered concrete. It’s more dramatic. It’s colder. It’s harder to walk through, and to see through. I love shooting in conditions like this. Why? Because I don’t have even the slightest memory of how cold I probably got, but I bet I took a mighty fine hot shower afterwards.

And the color. Ohhh, the color! It’s almost entirely absent from the right half of it all, except for some tail lights. but the left is bursting with some pale green, some deep brick, some brighter brick, and that DO NOT ENTER eye-magnet that is all off kilter. Perhaps the colors don’t quite have that pop to’em, but there’s an intensity to them that I really enjoy. Perhaps because I general associate heavy snowfall with whiteouts all around, which makes this color something of a surprise.

For the next couple months I’ll just have to find some torrential rain to suit up for.
