If you thought Mainland China was crazy about newfound wealth, check out Macau (which is technically part of the PRC, just like Hong Kong). Dozens of Vegas-style casinos dominate the skyline, Formula 1 street racing tears through the main avenues once a month, and developers plant these massive beanstalks of apartments where hundred-year-old Portuguese villas once stood.
Oh, the color! Light pink and beige monuments, speckled with the blackness of windows and dots of air conditioners. It all melds into this crazy repeating pattern of… well, I thought it might resemble the woven threads of a cloth when viewed under a microscope, but that isn’t quite satisfactory. Then you remember that hundreds if not thousands of people see that and think, “home.”
Then the power lines, as messy as anywhere in China. These thin subtly curved lines cut across the rigidity of the background and I guess just turns the whole thing into a big chaotic mass of… I’m just at a loss for words today, coughing all over the place and thinking about the wonderousness of working in New York City for AOL, with whom I interviewed with and took quite a liking to today. We. Shall. See.
Crazy Macau
You think the power lines look messy in China???….imagine what it would look like in VIETNAM!….like a ginormous bundle of black hair x10…lol
I wonder how many rooms they got in those apt buildings….hmmm…good pic btw! miss you Gus! 🙂
