Whilst reviewing some work for a selective portfolio I came across this. Absolutely no recollection of shooting it. It looks like something I would shoot, but by golly it’s faded from my memory.
I’m instantly taken by the impact of the lighting. Sure there’s the pop of red in a mostly colorless image, but something about these extreme and unnatural brights and darks is really quite eye catching for me. There’s a strangeness to it.
It’s such an ordinary sight by subject matter, but the illumination has this extreme kind of edge that makes it what it is. Sitting down to work with a cup of hot tea never feels like this looks.
Love the tea.
