Shanghai is the new Amsterdam… or… no, no its not. Just because Shanghai has canals and wandering concrete-walled streams like this one does not make it Amsterdam. Nor Venice.
I think this image works for me primarily because it combines the shaky camera aesthetic (slight-to-significant motion blur throughout) with a solid composition. It would still persevere if it were perfectly sharp, but we get the added bonus of the very dreamy quarter-second-exposure-shot-from-a-moving-bus look.
I can find one place here free of the dream. Just below to the left of the three upstanding citizens on the path. The railing is reflected down there in utmost detail. You can clearly see each tiny little post.
I miss the freeways there.
