What is that, a fry underneath the toppled can? The tablecloth was pulled halfway off the table, yet the party went on as the cans not on it would suggest. And candle light? There were candles romantically illuminating a party where there’s eight cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon per square foot of table space?
I chose this shot for today since I just returned from a weekend of polo (one day in Philadelphia, another in New York) where there was plenty of … well, what you see above. How much story can one photo tell? What’s missing is a polo ball or tournament flyer or something that ties this shot to an event. But perhaps it’s more timeless this way. It could be any party. It could be a party you were at last week or 20 years ago. What does an unmarked photo with clear subject material yet hazy details cause you to think or recall?
